A horrific incident brought to light the Party for Animals, since it seems that strangers killed and hung a fox on a basketball net, outside the church of Agia Marina in Dasaki Achna in the privately owned area of the church that is used as a parking lot.
According to the party's announcement, the unlucky animal was hanged since Saturday 28/05 and was spotted by a citizen who in a state of shock came in contact and informed the Party about the Animals of Cyprus about this tragic event. The Party immediately undertook further the investigation of this case which is now underway.
Then the Police of the Bases were notified and in cooperation with the District Animal Welfare Commission they arrived at the spot Sunday morning to take it down, and then the Veterinary Services received it. As the Party for Animals points out, the information indicated that the fox may have been murdered and then transferred and placed in plain sight on the basketball masquerade.
The fox's dead body was taken to the Veterinary Services building in Nicosia where an autopsy will be performed to show how she may have been murdered. At the same time, an attempt is being made by the Police of the Bases to locate the person(s) who carried out this lawless and creepy act.
The Animal Party condemned the unacceptable, heinous, and macabre act of some of our fellow citizens, and hoped that the culprits would be found and punished accordingly. At the same time it sent out a message that tolerance of such barbaric acts against innocent and defenceless animals will not continue. Finally, let us consider, as European citizens, whether such acts do an honour to our country and our civilisation.
