Even closer to the realization of the strategic goal of transforming the city into Smart and Digital is the Municipality of Pafos.
With the signing of the contract begins the major project for the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of an integrated system of smart water resources management and water metering. The value of the project contract is more than €11 million and the duration of implementation is 36 months. This is the largest smart city project so far in the whole of Cyprus.
The new system will effectively contribute to reducing loss, improving quality and providing equal water availability. It will include, among others, the implementation of a system for the prevention and detection of leakages, the installation of 27,000 smart water meters of high accuracy and automatic metering reading, the implementation of a system for monitoring, controlling and fully automating the water supply network and the implementation of an automatic chlorination system.
The Municipality of Pafos faces serious challenges in terms of real-time monitoring and management of its water resources, including the quantity and quality of water. The main objective of the project, which is included in the axis of "green development", is to promote the sustainable management of water resources through the long-term protection of available resources and the environment. Optimal leak management and active control will drastically reduce water losses. In addition, the improvement of the quality of the water provided to citizens is of major importance, since it is inextricably linked to their health.
