PAPHOS CHIEF OF POLICE - 26 NEW POLICE OFFICERS MAN THE PAPHOS ADE AS OF 4 MAY

Filenews 3 May 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

The significant shortages in human resources recorded in recent years in the Pafos Police Department, begin to be faced with immediate effect. This was revealed by the Chief of Police, during today's meeting he had with the MP of Paphos of DIKO, Chrysanthos Savvides.

As Mr. Savvidis confirmed in his statements to "F", Stelios Papatheodorou announced to him that 26 new police officers are manning the Pafos Police Department from Wednesday until the end of June, in an effort to reduce as much as possible the problem of the lack of human resources created since 2013, with the freezing of recruitment as a result of the economic crisis.

"In the ADE of Pafos there is, as the Chief told me, a lack of 80 police officers", stressed the MP of Paphos. "We are now in a position to have 26 new members of the force in Paphos, who will be promoted in three instalments over a horizon of about a month.

These 26 new placements do not, of course, solve the problem of the Police in Paphos, as far as the staffing that should exist is concerned, but it is an important principle, given that about 1/3 of the needs of the Pafos Directorate will be covered".

Chrysanthos Savvidis said that he discussed with the Chief of Police the problem that now arises in Emba with the over-concentration of foreigners. Mr. Papatheodorou, stressed, recognizes the problem, which is why an order has already been given for the increasing of patrols and controls in the wider area.

"I also put before the Chief of the force the serious security problems recorded in the football stadium of Paphos," he said, "such as the oxidation of points under the stands and railings that are placed in a way that acts as stairs for fans to rise to them, rather than preventing them.

Mr. Papatheodorou immediately requested the letter from me setting out the problems, which he will use for immediate intervention to the CSO in order to resolve these important issues".
