An unbelievable incident occurred last night in Limassol when four persons kidnapped a 34-year-old woman, who was first tied up and gagged. A citizen who became aware of the incident prevented the assailants and called the Police.
According to the Police, yesterday at around 22.00 in the evening information was received that in the area of Kato Polemidia, four foreigners kidnapped a girl also a foreigner whom they put in a vehicle, while a citizen managed to prevent them. Members of the Limassol ICF went to the scene where they located the 34-year-old complainant, and then carried out examinations. The examinations, according to the Police, revealed that the complainant is 34 years old from Sri Lanka.
As she said, she received a phone call from a woman of her own nationality, who asked her to meet on the pretext that she would buy from her some face creams. Around 21.30 she called her again and asked her to meet in Kato Polemidia near the 34-year-old's home. The 34-year-old then went to the meeting point where the person in question was waiting for her. Other foreigners of the 34-year-old arrived immediately at the scene, who had remained in the vehicle nearby. Then, after tying the complainant with a rope from the neck to the waist and arms, they then gagged her with a shawl and pulled her up to the car.
At one point while the 34-year-old was yelling and calling for help, one of the three foreigners waved a kitchen knife to stop her yelling. In their attempt to force her into the vehicle, they were spotted by a passing citizen who had seen what was happening and heard the 34-year-old calling for help. The citizen got out of his car and approached them. He then pulled them back and managed to prevent them while taking the 34-year-old out of the vehicle.
The four were pulling the woman to put her back in the vehicle but the citizen yelled at them to stop and then called the Police. The 34-year-old was transferred to the Limassol General Hospital where she was examined. It was found to have a friction burn on the scapula and was subsequently released. At the scene, the rope and the shawl as well as the kitchen knife were found and were taken as evidence.
The four foreigners were transferred to the offices of the Limassol ICF where they were questioned orally and gave various allegations. The examinations found that they reside legally in the Republic. Also against the 34-year-old complainant was pending a judicial arrest warrant for a case of extortion of money with false representations, a case of the Larnaka ICF where she was arrested. Arrest warrants were also issued against all four foreigners where they were arrested. All are expected to be brought before the District Court of Limassol today for a request for their detention.
