Unlike Cyprus, which sometimes said no to Energean's gas, another contract was announced in Israel with the company.
A new contract for the sale of natural gas for quantities up to 0.8 billion cubic metres per year (as much as the potential annual consumption in Cyprus) signed by Energean in Israel. The agreement concerns the East Hagit power plant, which was recently privatised. The agreement has a duration of 15 years and concerns the deposits of Energean in Israel.
Mathios Rigas CEO of Energean Group, stated: "We are happy to have signed a new contract for the sale of up to 0.8 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually for our deposits in Israel, achieving one of the key milestones for us in 2022. This is the third consecutive contract for Energean as a result of iec's power station privatization program (...). Also, I would like to confirm that the FPSO "Energean Power" has departed from Singapore for Israel and we look forward to starting production from the Karish deposit in the third quarter of the year."
Energean has expressed an official interest in the transportation of natural gas, by pipeline, from Israel to Cyprus, but also for the installation of a floating liquefaction plant in Vassilikos (FLNG), for exports through Cyprus to other countries. The Cypriot government is examining the proposal with interest.
