Across Ukraine and other countries in Europe, investigations into war crimes in Ukraine are ongoing, explained European Justice Commissioner Didier Reeders.
European Justice Commissioner Didier Reders vowed that war crimes in Ukraine will be the subject of criminal prosecutions and that the atrocities committed since the Russian army invaded the country on 24 February "will not go unpunished".
In an interview published yesterday by the Italian newspaper La Stampa, Mr Reynders clarified that eleven EU Member States have begun conducting war crimes investigations and have identified more than 600 suspects so far.
The investigations are being carried out both on Ukrainian territory and in other countries in Europe, where evidence is gathered and statements are taken from people who fled the country to save themselves from the conflict, the Justice Commissioner explained.
He stressed, however, that the evidence of war crimes must be properly gathered, as "if it includes false information or fake news, it will be a disaster."
