The Cyprus Animal Party, apart from the fact that it disagrees with the confinement of the cat at the Limassol Zoo, wants to stress that the procedures concerning the KAD 95/2021 were bypassed. In addition, the physical and psycho-emotional needs of the animal were not taken into account at all.
As stated in a statement: It was not taken into account that this particular animal all this time was treated as a pet, and therefore the corresponding character and behaviours developed in it. He lived with his guardian, cared for and depended on his guardian, was trained for his living in a house and his coexistence with people as a member of their family.
This animal can not live in its natural habitat. According to information we have been given (and we hope that this information is not true) the cat will be at the Limassol Zoo and will be in plain sight for its visitors.
We call on the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment to investigate and give instructions to determine whether or not under the Animal Welfare Law 46(I)1994, which was amended in March 2021 by decision of the Council of Ministers and in accordance with the Legislative Decree 95/2021, the correct procedures were followed or not, as well as whether or not the action of the Veterinary Services which gave its permission for the transport of the cat. at the Limassol Zoo, if and to what extent it complies with the national legislation on zoos 81/2002 where in our opinion relevant articles were violated.
The Cyprus Animal Party will immediately await the answers to the above questions, and of course we want extensive research to see who finally gave or did not give permission for the cat to pass through the checkpoints of the Republic of Cyprus or whether some people finally turned a blind eye or did not turn a blind eye, and of course the issue of education on related issues comes up again, for officers either in the Veterinary Services or in the Customs or police.
