Leading Cyprus Symphony Orchestra member Sorin Alexandru Horlea (viola) and Andreas Lardis (violin) perform masterpieces including Bach, Halvorsen, and Gliere, plus some special arrangements by the duo, of Cypriot and Romanian traditional melodies. Presented by Music in the Mountains.

Sorin Alexandru Horlea (viola) was born in Bucharest in 1975 and started the violin at the age of eight. He graduated from George Enescu Music High-School where he studied under maestro Octav Savitchi and Ciprian Porumbescu Music University where his professor was maestro Daniel Podlovschi. He took part in summer-courses with Viktor Pikaizen and Eugen Sarbu. In 1997 he won the third prize at the George Enescu Childhood Memories contest in Bucharest. During his university studies he played in the Radio Chamber Orchestra, Philarmonia Chamber Orchestra and in Bucharest Opera, but mainly in George Enescu Philharmonic. In 2000 he moved to Lebanon to fulfil his position in Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra, where he became the assistant concert master. He moved to Cyprus in 2005 and since then is a member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. He is also working as an associate teacher of the Cyprus Youth Orchestra. Alongside his output as an orchestral musician, he is an active performer as a soloist and in various chamber groups throughout Europe and Middle East, playing not only classical but also jazz and folk music. He was a member of Cyprus String Quartet, and the folk band Danube Quartet. He regularly performs contemporary music as he is a resident musician at the Avaton Festival in Limassol, a member of the Chronos Ensemble, and of the Ensemble Cyclamen. In 2016, he started studying viola on his own in order to develop as a musician. In June 2019 he recorded together with the pianist Anita Tomasevich the album Nocturnal Ballads, consisting on 16 violin encores. Also in 2019, together with two of his former students he established the Fusionia String Quartet, where he plays viola. Andreas Lardis (violin) was born in Limassol 1988 and started playing the violin at 5 years old. For the last ten years Andreas has been taking lessons and guidance from the violin professor Sorin Alexander Horlea which is his violin mentor. He had also taken lessons from Panayioths Stylianou for 5 years at a younger age. He has been a member of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. Andreas Lardis studied Civil Engineering in University of Liverpool and graduated with First Class at 2012. During his studies, Andreas played for two years at the Royal Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Liverpool and took masterclasses from well-known violinists in the UK. Andreas is characterised by the maturity of his sound. Andreas has played as a soloist with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra for new artists, and has made appearances both on stage and on recordings with classical, contemporary and traditional music.
Wine Bar Lofou: The venue was established in Lofou in 2015 and offers a large selection of Cypriot wines, spirits, fresh juices, beers, coffees and a small snack menu including pizza, platters and salad etc. It is open from 1pm daily, except Tuesdays, and is a wonderfully atmospheric venue for live music. Agrovino is a village complex comprising of a separate tavern, wine bar and accommodation, each within walking distance, that combines Cypriot hospitality and traditional architecture and cuisine. Lofou: The village is located to the north-west of Limassol, just 26Km from the city. It is on an average altitude of 780 meters and surrounded by the neighbouring communities of Pera Pedi to the north (around 6.5Km) and Agios Therapon to the southwest (about 4.5Km). Starting from the Troodos round-about and moving north, after passing the community of Alassa, head northwest, following the signs to Lofou and Agios Therapon. The route from Limassol takes about half an hour by car.
Music in the Mountains was created in 2005 in order to present a wide range of high-quality concerts in all musical genres in the mountain villages in the Limassol region including Lania, Lofou, Trimiklini, Moniatis, Silikou and Omodos.
