 Filenews 7 April 2022

A protest by Ukrainians outside the Parliament, which met at the Conference Centre, was underway in the afternoon, on the occasion of the speech made by Ukrainian President Zelenskiy to the MPs and the people of Cyprus.

Protesters wore "blood" jerseys, some with hoods and others with their hands tied, sending messages related to the Russian invasion of their country.

Ukraine's national anthem and slogans such as 'stop Putin', 'stop killing' and 'stop lying' were also heard.

At some point the crowd of demonstrators approached the president of DISY Averoff Neophytou, applauded them and spoke with them.

The moments when protesters remained on the ground, posing as the bodies of their compatriots in Ukraine, were shocking.

At that time, President Anastasiades was leaving the Parliament and "froze" against the spectacle.

He recommended courage, stressing that the Republic of Cyprus is doing its best on the issue, in cooperation with its partners in the European Union.
