 Filenews 20 April 2022

A new sponsorship plan for the installation of a photovoltaic system for charging an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid vehicle (2022) was passed by the Cabinet.

Sponsorship scheme amounting to €1.5 million for the installation of a photovoltaic system for charging an electric or hybrid vehicle of the plug-in type, approved today the Council of Ministers following a proposal by the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Mrs. Natasa Pilidou.

The Plan is part of the Government's efforts to promote electromobility and sustainable transport in general and falls under the Strategy for a rapid transition to green energy. In addition to the installation of the photovoltaic system, it provides the opportunity to the beneficiaries to purchase and install a charger, to convert the electrical installation of the house from single-phase to three-phase and purchase of a battery for energy storage that will be produced by the photovoltaic system. Beneficiaries of the scheme are natural persons who reside in a house and are owners of an electric or hybrid plug-in vehicle.

Based on Ms. Pilidou's proposal, the Scheme, which will be implemented by the RES and EK Fund, has retroactive effect from February 1, 2022 and will remain open until 20/12/2023 or until the available budget is exhausted. The start date for the submission of applications will be announced by the Fund's Management Committee in the near future.

The amount of the sponsorship for the installation or expansion of an existing photovoltaic system is €750 per KW, with a maximum sponsorship amount per vehicle of €1500. The optional costs are financed as follows:

- Purchase, installation of charger, €600.

- Conversion of the electrical installation of the house from single-phase to three-phase, €450.

- Battery purchase/installation, €750 per KW, with a maximum grant amount per application of €2000.

The Sponsorship Plan is included in the "Cyprus tomorrow" Recovery and Resilience Plan for the period 2021–2026, and is funded by the EU.
