With modest pomp, according to the spirit of the days and the Greek Orthodox tradition, the Holy Easter will be celebrated again this year, in the city of Pafos. With the main objective of highlighting this spirit, the Holy Metropolis of Pafos, the Municipality of Pafos, the 8th Infantry Regiment of the National Guard, the Police Directorate of Pafos, the Youth Organization "Stavraetoi" undertook again this year the organization of the religious ceremonies of Good Friday and Holy Saturday, in the city of Pafos.
More specifically, the following established ceremonies have been scheduled, focusing on the Cathedral of St. Theodore.
Today, Good Friday:
The procession of the Epitaph of St. Theodore's Cathedral will begin around 9.30 p.m. and will follow the following route:
Agiou Theodorou Street – Kostis Palamas Square – 25th March Street – Dionysiou Solomou Square – Griva Digeni Avenue – 28th October Square, where he will meet with the Procession of the Epitaph of the Holy Church of Agios Kendeas. For the procession, the established procession will be formed, with the participation of the Holy Clergy and the dignitaries. It will be preceded by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Pafos and will be accompanied by a contingent of the National Guard, the Youth Organization "Stavraetoi".
In the Square of October 28th, the Epitaph of the Cathedral of St. Theodore and St. Kendeas will be placed and a prayer will be chanted, from a platform, officiated by the Metropolitan Bishop of Pafos Georgios. A special tone will be given to the whole ceremony by the Choir of the Pafos Music Club, under the direction of Maestro Sotiris Karageorgis, who will sing the Lamentation of the Epitaph.
The Pafos Police Department, in cooperation with the Traffic Police Department of the Municipality of Pafos, have made special arrangements for the smooth conduct of the ceremonies and the avoidance of traffic congestion. More specifically, from 5.00pm on Good Friday, it will be forbidden to park vehicles and other wheeled vehicles on 25th March Street and from 8.30 p.m., on the streets through which the procession will pass. Kennedy Square and Andreas Ioannou, Ioannis Agrotis and 25th March streets will be closed.
To meet the increased needs of vehicle parking, the stadium of Nikolaidios Gymnasium (G.S. Korivos), the parking area next door, the 7th Primary School, the new Parking area of Kennedy Square, the parking of government buildings and Apostolou Pavlou Avenue will be used.
The Municipality of Pafos and the Pafos Police Department call on drivers to faithfully implement the relevant measures and to cooperate with the bodies of the Traffic Police and the Traffic Police Of the Municipality of Pafos, in order to avoid problems.
Tomorrow, Holy Saturday:
At midnight on Holy Saturday, the Resurrection Service will take place in the Churches of our City.
On this occasion, the Municipality of Pafos appeals to the public and especially to young people not to use firecrackers and other prohibited pyrotechnic articles, which can pose an immediate danger to their health and welfare. The Municipality of Pafos wishes its citizens and all Cypriot Hellenism "Happy Easter" and the Resurrection of Christ to strengthen our Struggle for vindication, liberation and economic development and stability.
