The Police have been active on a nationwide basis with coordinated actions and operations during this three-day period, aiming at the prevention of serious and fatal road collisions and the safety of citizens' movements on the road network.
Members of the Police are also on Sunday, on duty, at various points of the road network, to control and regulate traffic and provide assistance where needed, while at the same time, traffic controls continue to deal with traffic violations, with particular emphasis on violations that are key factors causing serious and fatal road collisions.
Until Sunday morning, during the traffic inspections carried out since Friday, April 1st, by the Traffic Police Department and the District Police Directorates, more than 950 traffic violations were detected and reported. There are reports of speed limit violations, traffic signal and traffic lights violations, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
For speed limit violations in particular, a total of 568 vehicle drivers were reported, while for traffic signal and traffic lights violations, 84 drivers were reported. A total of 25 vehicle drivers tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 10 vehicle drivers tested positive for a preliminary driving test under the influence of drugs.
Another 27 complaints were made for non-use of a seat belt by drivers and vehicle passengers, 19 complaints were made for driving with non-free hands, and 33 complaints about offences of illegal parking of vehicles.
Also notable are the 17 complaints of drivers who were not covered by an insurance certificate, as well as the 18 complaints of drivers, for driving a vehicle for which there was no valid certificate of suitability – MOT, while there were also 112 complaints about driving a vehicle without a valid registration certificate.
The road safety measures taken by the Police during this three-day period continue, as well as the daily traffic control, as well as the constant updating of the public, aiming at the prevention of road collisions, the cultivation of road awareness and the increase of safety in the road network.
