Cyprus has been affected since yesterday by the system called "Philippos", with cloudy weather, local rain and isolated thunderstorms, making up the scenery, while temporarily, locally and in the semi-mountainous areas, snow or sleet is expected to fall, while in force until 8:00 on Friday morning was the yellow warning for strong and windy winds issued yesterday afternoon by the Meteorological Service.
The warning was for severe and locally to windy westerly to northwesterly winds that locally can reach up to 8 Beaufort, which would affect intermittently the north, west and southwest.
According to the Meteorological Service, the sea will be generally undulating, while initially, temporarily in the west and north, very undulating. The temperature will rise to around 11 degrees in the interior, west and north coasts, around 12 degrees in the rest of the coast and around one degree in the higher mountains, where locally there will be frost.
Gradually by the afternoon the phenomena weaken.
The weather forecast
Today, the weather will be mostly cloudy and local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, while locally in the mountains snowfall is expected, which at times may be dense. Transient snowfall or sleet is also expected in some semi-mountainous areas, while the phenomena are quite limited from noon onwards. Winds will blow generally westerly to northwest, in the morning very strong, 6 Beaufort and transient locally to the west and north mainly coast to strong, 6 to 7 Beaufort. From the afternoon onwards the winds weaken and become strong to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort, in the same direction. The sea will be up to undulating, on the south and east coasts and up to very wavy, on the west and north coasts. The temperature will rise to around 10 degrees in the interior, west and north coasts, around 12 degrees in the south and east coasts and around minus 4 degrees in the higher mountains. Locally in the highlands there will be frost.
Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy and local rains are expected. In mountainous areas, snowfall is expected from time to time, while snow or sleet is expected temporarily in some semi-mountainous areas. Winds will blow west to northwest, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort and locally strong, 5 Beaufort to become later, mainly in leeward areas, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and locally moderate, 4 Beaufort. The sea will be turbulent, on the south and east coasts and wavy, on the west and north coasts. The temperature will drop to around 3 degrees in the interior, around 5 degrees in the south and east coasts, around 7 degrees in the west and north coasts and around minus 7 degrees in the higher mountains. In the mountains, in the semi-mountainous and in some lowland areas, frost will form.
On Saturday, the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy and isolated rains and snow are expected in mountainous areas, while transient snowfall or sleet is expected in some semi-mountainous areas.
On Sunday, the weather remains mostly cloudy, with local rains intermittently and snow in the highlands, while snow or sleet is expected locally and in the semi-mountainous areas.
