An agreement with Russia to open nine evacuation corridors, including from the besieged city of Mariupol, Kiev announced Thursday, according to CNN.
The corridors are designed to allow the safe transport of humanitarian aid to the cities and safe passage for residents who want to leave.
In recent days, an increasing number of private vehicles have fled Mariupol, although there is no official corridor. A humanitarian convoy destined for the city has been stuck in Berdyansk, about 80 kilometres to the west, for days.
Minister of Reintegration of the Provisionally Occupied Territories, Irina Vereschuk, said other corridors have been agreed in the Kiev region, including from Borodianca to Zitomir and from the village of Shevchenkove to Brovari.
In addition, Vereschuk said the government plans to deliver humanitarian aid to the cities of Hostome and Bucha, as well as to the villages of Semipolki, Markivci and Opanashiv.
