TALA - TREE PLANTING - 3 APRIL

 Filenews 24 March 2022

Seeing the problem of climate change perpetuated and worsened, the Green Shield, as an organization that cares exclusively for the environment, decided to take immediate and substantial action. So, we started about a year ago the creation of a nursery in Cyprus, specifically in the village of Xyliatos with the aim of producing seedlings for tree planting and reforestation of the Cypriot land. At the same time, we want to promote a policy of balancing emissions of carbon dioxide and other toxic gases, by counterbalancing tree planting.

For this, we will be glad you to adopt part of the 6000 thousand saplings (cypresses, pines, carob trees, etc.) in our next tree planting on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 11am**. Our event will take place over the outskirts of the Holy Monastery of Agios Neophytos, which have been hit by fires. All volunteers will be given an honorary diploma for their participation, while all children under the age of 10 will receive honorary medals.

The event will be attended by the Most Holy Metropolitan of Pafos Mr. George, the Deputy Minister of Innovation and Research Mr. Kyriakos Kokkinos, parties, schools, organizations and institutions from all over Cyprus. For seedling adoption and more information visit our website www.youreforestcyprus.org.

For our project, more than 100,000 thousand saplings have already been planted in pots, ready for tree planting. The saplings are adopted at only €3 each, a symbolic price helps to make our project sustainable. Among our future goals is for our nursery to be open to visitors by schools and to organize educational activities.

Our timeless work as an organization has already left its own green imprint on our country, as we have so far carried out 10 tree plantings all over Cyprus, 30,000 saplings were planted, in the presence of thousands of volunteers, organizations and institutions, while we have conceded so many more in the affected areas.

The contribution of every ordinary citizen, ministry, institution and organization is very important for the sustainability of our work which entails huge costs. We appreciate the support of society and those who dare to dream of a green and sustainable Cyprus.

**  The Forestry Department have advised that it is too soon to plant the 'fire damaged' area in Kamares.  Therefore The Green Shield will be planting the area above the Monastery in Tala.  If you wish to attend, please go to the Monastery and there will be signs to direct you 'Πρασινας Ασπιδας'.  If you wish to support the planting financially, if you go onto the website mentioned above, and go to Shop, you can order trees for planting on 3 April.  Alternatively you can arrange a yearly subscription of €50 which will give you automatically 5 trees per year for planting.
