 Filenews 4 March 2022

Moscow is now resorting to a ban on demonstrations, as authorities in Russia are forced to arrest hundreds of anti-war protesters in Ukraine on a daily basis.

According to the Russian news agency Interfax, the Russian Interior Ministry and the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia are warning citizens that it is unacceptable to proceed with actions that do not have the permission of the authorities.

The Attorney General's Office said that many of these "calls for supposedly peaceful 'anti-war' actions by civilians" are being disseminated to the network by organizations that have been banned by a court order on the territory of the Russian Federation in relation to their extremist activities, it said.

In the past few days, impressive protests have erupted in Russia following Putin's decision to invade Ukraine. Thousands defied repression and shouted "This war is not ours"

7,586 people have been arrested since anti-war protests began

Yesterday at least 724 people were arrested in Russia during protests in 25 cities against the war in Ukraine, according to activists.

In total, 7,586 people have been arrested since anti-war protests began in Russia last week, according to the OVD-Info website.

Russian security forces are harshly repressing anti-war demonstrations.

The authorities have warned citizens not to take part in demonstrations organised without permission. Demonstrations of this nature were banned repeatedly, often with the invocation of the pandemic.
