PAPHOS - RISING CRIME OF BURGLARIES

Filenews 19 March 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

The phenomenon of burglaries and thefts in Paphos is becoming increasingly serious, despite the apparent intensification of police checks and patrols throughout the 24-hour period. Information from "F" shows the Police during this period to draw up special plans to deal with the situation, since from the many arrests of the last period it has become obvious that there is an organized plan of spirals and these are not isolated actions of  a few people.

This is confirmed, according to competent factors, by the existence of specific complaints of citizens about groups of people who were obviously moving suspiciously in neighbourhoods of Paphos and communities of the peri-urban area, while in the following days in these same areas there are indeed complaints from citizens for thefts from their homes. Only in the last few days, in various parts of the urban and peri-urban area, such as Tala, Emba and the north side of the Municipality of Pafos, many incidents have been reported by residents and passing motorists for people who were moving suspiciously in specific neighbourhoods in groups of two or three people, while nearby are parked vehicles with another person inside, apparently as a means of escape. There were even reports from citizens that despite the fact that these people saw themselves that some people were watching them, they nevertheless took risks by continuing to watch houses.

Similar movements of suspects are reported en masse, according to our information, these days to the Police, with citizens now pressing for the more active and continuous presence of the force in the streets.

The Pafos Police Directorate has already drawn up a plan to deal with these actions, both with the denser presence of patrols on the streets, and with the establishment of static patrols. The phenomena of burglaries and thefts, however, continue just as intensely, with the result that the staffs of the Directorate are working on a new design for the more effective intervention of the force.
