A large number of complaints about suspicious password tapping messages on Social Media and especially on Instagram have been received by the Police in recent days. The allegations are being investigated by the Electronic Crime Subdivision.
Specifically, various users through social networking, receive a message, either electronic or telephone, which asks them to send him in a screenshot of a message they received and includes a link, supposedly to help their acquaintance to regain access to his social media account, such as Instagram.
These messages are malicious, with the perpetrators aiming to gain access to the recipient's own account, through the specific link. With this method, experts gain access to various user accounts, which they then use to fool other unsuspecting users.
The Police advise the public to be particularly careful in such messages and not to disclose passwords and access links they receive to any person, even if they are ostensibly a known person.
In case of receipt of a suspicious message / request, communicate in a different way and other means of communication with the person from whom he received the message to confirm the request.
In case the link is sent, it is recommended to immediately check and change the password of the account.
To protect against such online scams, the public is advised to activate the two-factor security settings for their online accounts.
