NATIONAL REPORT - DOMESTIC CORONAVIRUS TRANSMISSION AT 97.5%

A downward trend is observed in all indicators of the coronavirus, according to the National Report, despite the fact that the burden of infections in the community is maintained at high levels. Based on the epidemiological history, 2.5% (n=680) were cases with a recent travel history, while 97.5% (n=26,734) are in cases of domestic transmission – out of 27,414 cases (99.1%) with the relevant information available.

• In the last 14 days (15 - 28 February) 27,674 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded:

o The median age of COVID-19 cases was 31 years (Intraquartile range: 14-46 years), 53.6% concerns women (n= 12,163), 46.4% in men (n=10,513) - out of 22,676 cases (81.9%) with the relevant information available.

• The cumulative incidence of 14 days of COVID-19 (diagnosed cases of 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants) is 3,116.4.On March 2, 2022, 142 patients with active COVID-19 (diagnosed until February 28th) were hospitalized (based on registered data, including those discharged, transferred or deceased on March 2nd). Their median age was 73 years (Intraquartile range: 63- 84 years), with 58.4% (n=80) concerning men (out of 137 people with the relevant information available) and 33.3% (n=30) people from Nicosia district (out of 90 people with the relevant information available). In total, 22 (20.2%) people with COVID-19 who were hospitalized reported underlying diseases (out of 109 people with the relevant information available).

• According to the registered data, on March 2, 2022, 13 people with active COVID-19 (diagnosed until February 28 including those transferred or died on March 2) were in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – 12 (92.3%) were intubated. The median age of these COVID-19 patients in ICU was 58 years (Intraquartile range: 49-72 years), while 7 cases (53.9%) involve women. Four (30.8%) of people hospitalized in ICU reported underlying diseases.

• In the last 14 days, 94,921 molecular tests (PCR) (10,689.3 per 100,000 population) and 1,347,575 antigen rapid tests (151,753.9 per 100,000 population) have been performed.

As of February 28, 2022, 321,419 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Republic of Cyprus, with 863 deaths due to COVID-19 (COVID-19 mortality: 0.3%).
