Plans, and developments in the coastal area of the Municipality of Geroskipou, after the shipwreck of the development of €7 billion of EdenCity, remain on the sidelines during this period, due to the ongoing pending with the reform of the Local Government. Information of "F" reports that although the municipality has begun to draw up a planB after the sinking of the project of the foreign investor, the non-finalization of the position of Geroskipou in the new map of the Local Government (T.A.), contributes to the first line to enter the front line other issues and not that of the development of the coastal front.
For a year and a half now, the municipal authority has prepared a comprehensive development plan in the coastal area of the municipality where Eden City would be created and which, among other things, includes the expansion and enrichment of the municipality's sports centre, which today concerns the football stadium and the swimming pool, the creation of a bicycle path, a bicycle repair station, bicycle paths and other sports developments. "The Municipality of Geroskipou has submitted this planning and is waiting for the assignment of the land from the state to him in order to promote the projects. Already, the late former mayor, Michalis Pavlidis, had greatly advanced the understandings and contacts with the competent state departments in Nicosia on this issue. The municipality believes that this planning should be supported by the state, since the long delay and finally the shipwreck with the Hungarian investor for EdenCity resulted in our coastal area remaining unexploited for years pending this project," said a source.
This situation essentially held the local authority captive for many years in terms of promoting or preparing other plans and developments. The state will now have to make final decisions on the basis of the new planning we have devised to exploit this vast area, the same source noted. However, this timely reaction of the Municipality of Geroskipou to the development planning, passed de facto in second place in anticipation of the formalization of the future of the municipality within the new framework of reform.
