The 28-year-old, who had escaped from the detention facilities of the Pafos Police Department and was re-arrested on Saturday, appears to have developed "rich" activity during the period in which he escaped arrest. This is revealed after his arrest, after police officers revealed to the court during the process of issuing a detention order, that in many cases of burglaries and thefts in shops and other premises in Kato Paphos, the footage clearly distinguishes the runaway being involved in these illegal acts.
Police believe the 28-year-old was involved in a total of eight other burglary and theft cases in the days he had escaped, which are now added to the indictment along with the other 23 already lodged against him. In addition to the incriminating visual material, the Police also located after his arrest in the apartment where he was hiding a quantity of jewellery and other valuables, as well as a quantity of drugs and burglary tools.
Stolen goods were also found, according to the examiners of the case, in the car with which the runaway was being transported. The keys of this vehicle, the 28-year-old said when questioned, had been given to him by another expatriate who was in custody at the same time as him, before he escaped.
Following the issuance of his eight-day detention order by the Pafos District Court, the Police, according to our information, are working intensively to enable the preparation of the file for his direct referral to trial at the Assize Court, by next Friday. This is because the expiration of the detention order coincides with the holiday of Green Monday and for security purposes the Police want then that the 28-year-old is already transferred to the Central Prison.
At the same time, the Police are continuing intensive investigations to locate and arrest the second runaway who escaped along with the 28-year-old. The latter claimed when questioned after locating and re-arresting him that he does not know where he is or how the runaway is moving, since he said immediately after their escape they were separated.
