SOLUTION FOUND TO STOP THE DRYING OF EUCALYPTUS TREES BY PAPHOS AIRPORT

A problem that caused in recent years even "conspiracy theories" as to its causes, seems to find his answers that do not justify these theories. The reason for the well-known Dasaki on the beach of Timi, the drying of a large part of which in recent years, was attributed by many to deliberate actions of some with the ultimate goal of allocating the space for the needs of Paphos airport and specifically for the expansion of its parking spaces.

The poor condition of the eucalyptus trees and the rest of the greenery of the traditional for the Paphites picnic area, has been the subject of research by the Department of Forests for the last two years, as the responsible authority for the area. After the completion of the studies on the data prevailing in the area and the causes that cause the dispiriting picture of recent years, the department's officials concluded that the drying of a large part of the forest was due to the works carried out in the wider area by the Department of Public Works.

Scientists have concluded that the non-enrichment of the underground layers of the green space, combined with the drought of previous years that made the problem for the trees even more serious, has brought to an end the famous eucalyptus trees of the area and a drastic solution to the problem was required.

This is the reason why the migrants to and from the airport, were faced in the previous months with the unusual spectacle of the cutting of the trees up to a low height. Now those corrective moves are expected to bring the Dasaki Timis back to its previous impressive state in the coming years. Already lately the green colour reappears in the area, while the eucalyptus trees have begun to return to their former healthy state.
