No damages were reported after the new earthquake in the Pafos district, except for a report in Emba for cracks, which will be evaluated, Paphos District Officer Mary Lambrou said. She noted, however, that the District Administration of Pafos advises the owners of old buildings to check the static adequacy of the buildings with qualified engineers in case there are some problems that are dated.
In her statements to journalists, Mrs. Lambrou said that since 2012, "eurocodes are applied and we check and the supervising engineers are responsible for checking the earthquake resistance of the buildings of the young people", noting that "conditions are imposed".
She also added that there are areas with some soil problems identified by the Geological Survey Department and these are requested with the building permit geological and geotechnical studies. So, as she explained, the safeguards are in place for the most recent buildings.
Mrs. Lambrou, referring to the new seismic activity, said that it is known that yesterday the earthquake occurred a few minutes after 23:00 and was of a capacity of 5.1 on the Richter scale, adding that it was felt throughout the District of Pafos.
The epicentre, she continued, was in the same area as the previous earthquakes, i.e. 53 kilometres northwest of Polis Chrysochous, in the sea area.
As of the same time yesterday, she continued, "we have had communication with the Civil Defence at their headquarters no damages have been reported".
She pointed out, however, that this morning they had a report of a case in Emba for cracks. Of course, she pointed out, in such cases there seem to have been problems before, there was nothing generalized.
He also announced that this case, which has been mentioned, will be visited by the technical services for evaluation.
It is known said, that on 11/1/22 there was a stronger seismic vibration of 6.5 on the Richter scale. On 28/1/22 4.5 Richter, noting that there is a seismic activity which is competent to evaluate is the Geological Survey Department. But it seems to be some aftershocks, he concluded.
