An increase in the positivity rate, in the number of coronavirus patients, in state hospitals, but also in the number of cases, has been observed in recent days.
In the last 24 hours the positivity rate was 3.06%, coronavirus patients in state hospitals were 235, 24 more than the day before yesterday, and 3,083 positive cases were identified. For the third day in a row, the number of cases exceeded 3,000.
Speaking on state radio, epidemiologist Michalis Voniatis expressed the assessment that Omikron's variant may, in the end, cause a heavier disease than originally estimated. However, he said, it impinges on the "wall of immunity" of those who have been vaccinated or have become ill.
Mr. Voniatis warned that people, who are unvaccinated and have not been sick, are very exposed to the virus.
Yesterday, 75% of those hospitalized with coronavirus had no history of vaccination.
