Large quantities of water brought the phenomena that occurred during last January, resulting in quenching the thirst of the earth and increasing the quantities in the dams. According to yesterday's data of the Water Development Department, the dams of Lefkara, Argaka, Pomos and Xyliatos overflowed, while at 92.3% of its capacity is the Asprokremmos dam. Total dam occupancy reached 75.3%. This is the third rainiest January of the last 11 years.
Specifically, the inflow of water in January this year amounted to 74.6 million cubic metres of water. It is preceded by the hydrological year 2011-2012 with 92.6 million cubic metres of water. First is the hydrological year 2018 -2019, with the inflow of water at 118.1 million cubic metres.
The total tonnage of the dams is 290 million cubic metres. At the moment there are 219 million cubic metres of water in the dams, which account for 75.3% of their total capacity. A year ago we were counting 220.7 million cubic metres of water, i.e. the occupancy was at 75.9%.
Kouris, the largest dam, currently has 79 million. cubic metres of water, that is, it is at 68.8% of its capacity. A year ago it had 91.7 million cubic metres and occupancy was at 79.8%. The dams of the Southern Pipeline (Kouris, Kalavasos, Lefkara, Dipotamos, Germasogeia, Arminou, Polemidia and Achna) with a total capacity of 189.4 million cubic metres of water are at 71.1%. Last year it was at 74.4%.
