In a change of the procedures followed in relation to the response of ambulances to calls concerning positive cases of Covid-19, the Ambulance Service of the CySEC is proceeding.
Specifically, according to the announcement of the CySEC as of Monday, February 14, the Ambulance Service will respond only to emergency positive cases of Covid-19, just as it happens with all other diseases and injuries.
Therefore, citizens who do not need to be treated urgently and transported by ambulance should visit hospitals by their own private means. Also, discharged patients should be transported by private means and not by ambulance.
Personal Doctors have also been informed about the above change, who will inform the citizens that, in case they consider that they should be clinically evaluated in the short-term hospitalization departments of the Hospitals of the CySEC, but do not require urgent treatment and transport by ambulance, they should go to the hospitals by private means.
The Head of the Ambulance Service, Riana Constantinou, said that "the role of the Ambulance Service, as described by the World Health Organization, is exclusively about saving lives and therefore ambulances should always be on standby and available to reduce the response time, for the immediate provision of emergency prehospital health care to increase the survival rate of the sufferer."
"Today, 2 years after the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic and after humanity understood the behavior and action of the virus, the protocols and guidelines in relation to the use of ambulances regarding the handling of cases have been revised, so that the Ambulance Services can focus on their real role, which is to save animals and not to provide transport services (taxi services)", Added.
It is noted that the procedure for calling an ambulance in emergency situations has not changed and personal doctors should call 112 or 22887171 (Coordination Center for Ambulance Calls) 24 hours a day for all cases where their patients need immediate and urgent treatment by the Ambulance Service.
