Two deaths from COVID-19 were recorded today bringing the total number of deaths to 736, according to the announcement by the Ministry of Health. Also, 3,083 (positivity rate: 3.06%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 262,867.
At the same time, 235 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 67 are in serious condition. 74.9% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination. 20 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit. A total of 100,762 disease detection tests have been performed using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
Today's results follow in detail.A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 2 deaths announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- A man, aged 74, who died on February 1st in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 74, who died on February 2nd at the Limassol General Hospital.
As a result, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 736, of which:
- 460 men (62.5%), and
- 276 women (37.5%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 76.3 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 235 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 67 are in serious condition or in conditions of PPE.
Of the 67 patients who are in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 6 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit off the ventilator and 33 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 100,762 diagnoses performed, 5,435 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 95,327 by the antigen rapid test method, 3083 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 105 cases from 659 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 41 cases from 1,982 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 327 cases from 2,299 samples taken through private initiative.
- 39 cases from 307 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1,492 cases from 49,569 samples examined by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 1,076 cases from 45,758 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health's program.
- 3 cases from 188 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
