3,078 NEW CASES - Thursday 3 February

The Ministry of Health announces that today, February 3, 2022, no deaths of patients with the final cause of death were recorded, COVID-19, while 3,078 are the new cases of the disease.

Specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, with COVID-19 being the final cause of death, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 736.

  • 222 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 69 are in serious condition. 74.78% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 19 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

  • A total of 115,470 disease detection tests have been performed using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 3,078 (positivity rate: 2.67%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 265,945.

Today's results follow in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. As a result, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 736, of which:

  • 460 men (62.5%), and
  • 276 women (37.5%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 222 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 69 are in serious condition or in conditions of PPE.

Of the 69 patients who are in serious condition, 30 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit off the ventilator and 34 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 115,470 diagnoses performed, 5,552 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 109,918 by the antigen rapid test method, 3078 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 34 cases from 417 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 41 cases from 2,625 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 344 cases from 2,115 samples were taken through private initiative.
  • 27 cases from 364 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,633 cases from 47,977 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 998 cases from 61,941 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health's program.
  • 1 case from 30 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
