YELLOW WEATHER WARNING - SEVERE COLD, THUNDERSTORMS AND SNOW

Today severe cold across Cyprus with temperatures below zero in the mountains. Also rain, storms and snow. At the same time the Meteorological Service issued a Yellow Warning for strong thunderstorms.

The warning will be valid from 13.00 to 21.00.

The weather forecast

Low pressure will temporarily affect the region, while a cold air mass is expected tomorrow.

Today, the weather will initially be partly cloudy, to mostly cloudy, with rain in most areas and isolated thunderstorms. In the higher mountains it will snow intermittently. The phenomena may be intense from time to time. The temperature will rise to 15 degrees in the interior, around 16 degrees on the coast and 3 degrees in the higher mountains, where locally there will be frost.

Tonight, the weather will initially be mostly cloudy with local rains and isolated thunderstorms, but gradually the phenomena will become local and later isolated. In the highlands and later likely locally in the semi-mountainous areas, snowfall is expected intermittently. The temperature will drop to 1 degree in the interior, around 3 degrees on the coast and minus 6 in the higher mountains. Locally, in the mountains, in the semi-mountainous and later in the interior, frost is expected to occur.

On Wednesday, the weather will be mostly cloudy and chilly, with isolated rains initially likely to occur, as well as snowfall in the highlands and locally in the semi-mountainous areas. The temperature will drop significantly, in order to fluctuate significantly below the average climatic values.

On Thursday, increased cloudiness will be observed intermittently. On Friday, the weather will be mostly cloudy at times. The temperature will gradually rise significantly, to fluctuate close to the average climatic values.

The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issue of the bulletin, was 9 cm.
