Close to the investigation of 22 cases of burglaries and thefts, committed in Paphos, in the last two months, appear to be the Police, after yesterday's arrest of a 28-year-old resident of Paphos.
The 28-year-old was wanted by the Police after court arrest warrants were pending against him, in connection with 22 cases of building burglaries and thefts, committed between December 2021 and January 2022 in Paphos. After his arrest, the 28-year-old was brought before the Pafos District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.
The arrest of the 28-year-old was episodic, as it was preceded by his pursuit in the streets of Paphos. Specifically, around 6.35 a.m. yesterday, during a police operation to locate him, the 28-year-old was spotted driving a car on a Paphos road. Members of the Police signalled him to stop for a check, but he developed speed and continued his course.
The police followed the vehicle of the 28-year-old, who in his attempt to escape, was driving dangerously and committed a series of traffic offences. At some point on Paphos Chrysanthou Street, the 28-year-old lost control of his vehicle, causing it to hit an electric stake and come to a standstill.
Members of the Police then arrested the 28-year-old, pursuant to court warrants pending against him. A search of his car followed, during which a quantity of cannabis of one gram and a quantity of methamphetamine weighing three grams, as well as a large number of power tools, burglary tools and offensive weapons were found and seized.
A search was also carried out at the 28-year-old's home after his arrest, where a large number of electrical and other tools, mobile phones and offensive weapons were found and received as evidence.
The Pafos ICF, the YKAN (Pafos District Unit) and the Pafos Traffic Police continue the examinations.
This is the second time in the last week that the arrest of persons, leads investigators close to solving a large number of cases, committed in the city and district of Paphos.
It is recalled that on January 21, 2022, two persons, aged 33 and 29, had been arrested for facilitating cases of burglary, theft and illegal possession of property. In their home, after a search, a large number of gold coins, collectible coins, computers, power tools, hunting cartridges and a grenade were found and seized.
The 33-year-old and the 29-year-old are already in custody, pursuant to a relevant decree of the Pafos District Court. A total of 18 cases of burglaries, thefts and car thefts, committed in the last period of time in the city and district of Pafos, are being investigated against them.
In some of the above cases, a 31-year-old resident of Pafos, who was also arrested on January 21st, is allegedly involved in some of the above cases, for facilitating interrogations in connection with investigated cases of illegal possession of property, burglary tools and drugs.
As part of police investigations to locate and arrest the 28-year-old, the 31-year-old's vehicle was located and searched. During the investigation, a small quantity of drugs, various burglary tools, two knives and a bat were found and seized. A number of valuables such as watches, sunglasses, pennies, mobile phones, power tools and a sum of money, which are believed to be theft products, were also identified and seized.
