THEY DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO TAKE THE 600 SYRIANS OF CHLORAKAS

They are looking for solutions for the 600 Syrian refugees who live in an apartment complex in Chlorakas and by decree of the District Court of Paphos they must leave their place of residence because the living conditions were deemed inappropriate.

In a meeting the day before yesterday at the Legal Service of all the services involved, solutions were sought, but in fact nothing was decided, since on the one hand there is no practical way of complying with the decree and on the other hand, the Deputy Ministry of Welfare is looking for places to house them. The Legal Service is looking for ways to execute the decree abandoning the Agios Nikolaos apartment complex by the Syrians, most of whom have received supplementary protection status.

It is noted that the decree of the District Officer Of Paphos, Mary Lambrou, was issued on 17 November and although it was immediately applicable, an extension of two months was granted in order to find other places of accommodation for these persons. The deadline expires on Monday when it should be implemented, however, there is a problem as to who will implement it. As "F" is informed, there is a gap in the legislation since in the case of non-compliance, the law does not specify what is done further. A solution that is being discussed is that this decree, which orders the evacuation of the premises, be issued by the Court, so that there are ways of its execution.

There is an agreement between the District Officer and the Legal Service, the Ministry of Interior and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, in order to find ways to dissolve the ghetto that was created in the area. On its part, the Police are in constant contact with the Community Authorities of Chlorakas, will continue the policing of the area, will intensify the controls of the residents there and will denounce those who are in violation of the decree of the Minister of Interior.

According to our same information, a thought that is being made is that the Decree of the Pre-Admiral is served on each of the Syrians affected so that they do not express ignorance of its content and then take decisions if they do not obey. The task of the Ministry of Interior and the local authorities to end the ghettoisation of the area is not easy, since these are a significant number of refugees with large families and it is difficult to separate them, or to transfer them to a structure because they are all overcrowded.
