Filenews 8 January 2022 - by Vassos Vassiliou

A population has been recorded in Paphos in recent years and according to estimates, by 2026 the population will increase further.

Based on the estimates within the limits of the new Paphos Local Plan, which includes the city of Paphos, Geroskipou as well as the surrounding communities, the population from 45,965 in 2001 will more than double in 2026 to 104,466. In the year 2011 the population was, according to the census, 62,122 and this year it was expected to reach 85,982

In the Municipality of Paphos, which is the largest from 2001 to 2011, there was an increase of 23.98% while the population from 26,530 in 2001 is estimated to reach 45,669 in 2026.

The largest increase in population is recorded in Konia, where the inhabitants increased from 917 in 2001 to 2,209 in 2011 and this year is expected to be around 5,321. Finally, in the year 2026 the population is expected to increase tenfold based on 2001 and reach from 917 inhabitants to 9,070. The population of Chlorakas, where 3,201 people lived in 2001, seems to be increasing by 67%, to increase in 2011 to 5,356. This year the population is expected to reach 8,962 while in the year 2026 it is estimated to reach 11,978.

A significant increase in population is also recorded in Tremithousa with the number of residents increasing from 566 in 2001 to 1,915 this year, while in the year 2026 it is estimated that they will reach 2,718. A large increase of 67.91% is also recorded in the population of Tala where from 1,605 inhabitants in 2001 it is estimated that their number will reach 6,062 in 2026.

The largest percentage of the urban population still lives in the more central urban areas, although over time there has been a decrease in their concentration, due to residence trends in the newer urban areas, mainly further north.

In the same text it is mentioned that in areas where there are particularly strong trends of population growth, emphasis will be placed on ensuring the necessary functional infrastructure (spaces for public schools of various levels, main urban road network, etc.)
