This year's list of awards of the Queen of England includes the British Base Police Sergeant Lucas Panayiotou, who was awarded the "Overseas Territories Police Medal".
According to a BB statement, this important award was awarded to the BB Police Sergeant, after 30 years of service, "for his outstanding work and dedication, including his role as a Community Sergeant in the western areas of BB over the past 16 years."
Sergeant Panayiotou, it is added, supports charitable and community activities for children, young people and vulnerable groups, while having the title of "school governor", he supports local scout and youth groups and works closely with organizations that help children with disabilities.
In the last decade, the announcement continues, Sergeant Panayiotou and his team have raised more than half a million euros for charity.
The announcement notes that Sergeant Panayiotou also helped organize the annual "Christodoulas March" in the western areas of BB, coordinated food aid campaigns to support local communities, organized charity dinners in support of people with disabilities and the event "Riding for the Disabled", collected contributions and organized charity concerts for the prevention of drugs and support for community work.
He expressed honor for his award, saying that this means a lot to him, while the Chief of Police of the BB, Chris Eyre, expressed his pride for the member of the force.
"In my 35 years of service, I have never worked with the community's most dedicated and inspired police officer," he said, praising his enthusiasm and determination in the service.
Moreover, the Commander of the BB, Lieutenant General Rob Thomson, stressed that Sergeant Panayiotou is a model of contribution to the communities that fall under the ownership of the British Bases, and expressed his satisfaction that this offer and dedication is recognized through this award.
Finally, the President of the Community Council of Trachon, Kyriakos Christodoulou, praised the work done by Sergeant Panayiotou, noting that he is a positive person who sees opportunities in every problem and makes everyone believe that anything is possible.
