Concern and questions are raised by the way SafePass works in controlling the spread of Covid-19, with the competent authorities having begun to consider the use of additional technical solutions to ensure that citizens entering various premises are not on the list of thousands of people who have tested positive for the virus and should have been in isolation.
In particular, there is an issue about the fact that, according to the philosophy of the European Digital Certificate, which was created for the purposes of distribution within the EU and on which the operation of the domestic SafePass is based, the margin is left for people who have tested positive for the virus to be able to move with it, as long as the revocation provision has not been activated at European level. of the certificate, on the days when citizens must be quarantined.
As mentioned to us by the Deputy Ministry of Innovation, technical intervention is needed to activate this provision, following a relevant European decision, while this would mean that citizens would have to download the digital certificate to their mobile phone on a daily basis, so that it is up to date.
The Omikron mutation and the rapid increase in coronavirus cases have reportedly brought the activation of this provision to the forefront of EU discussions.
However, as we are informed, since no decision has been taken so far at a European level and the way SafePass operates cannot be changed for legal and technical reasons, the State has turned to a process of examining additional technical solutions, which will accompany the control of SafePass. , so as to ensure that those diagnosed with the virus do not continue to transmit the disease... with the "blessings" of the state.
