PAPHOS - DUE TO SMART CITY, ELECTRIC VEHICLES NEEDED

Filenews 3 January 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

Environmentally friendly means of transport are now a priority of the EU where such actions are co-financed by European funds to local authorities and other organizations. The Municipality of Paphos, as the first city in Cyprus that has already advanced to such a large extent the processes of its transformation into a "smart city", must also respond to the need for electromobility.

This is what the municipal councilor of Paphos and director of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Marinos Stylianou, points out in particular that the Traffic Police of the Municipality is the mirror of the Municipality of Paphos and the city and therefore should transmit the right image at all levels, sending the right messages to every citizen and visitor.

"Therefore, I recommend that the Municipality proceed to the research and purchase of electric scooters based on standards and on the basis of the needs of the Traffic Police Service, leaving the conventional models", he stresses. "Although the number of two-wheeled vehicles available in our Traffic Police is small, our action will contribute to the enhancement of our efforts to reduce air pollutant emissions and to the creation of infrastructure for electromobility in various parts of our city."

Marinos Stylianou points out, finally, that this action may be the beginning so that gradually all conventional vehicles available to the Municipality will be replaced with electric, environmentally friendly ones, contributing to the protection of the environment and the reduction of pollutant emissions.
