The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works signed two contracts for construction projects in the Pafos District today. These are two important projects that become a reality following the announcement of the President of the Republic, within the framework of the broader government policy for investment in improvement projects for the upgrading of the western region of Cyprus.
Specifically, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, Contracts were signed for:
• construction of works for the protection and improvement of part of the coastal front of Chlorakas, and
• construction of the roundabout on Kinyras Street that will be part of the Northern Geroskipou Bypass.
1. Construction of works for the protection and improvement of part of the coastal front of Chlorakas
The Contract was signed, on behalf of the Government, by the Director of the Department of Public Works, Mr. Antonis Koutsoulis, and on behalf of "KEPA ATTIKIS S.A." by the President and CEO of the company, Mr. Vassilis Mesantakos.
The Project concerns measures for the improvement and protection of the coastal section within the municipal boundaries of the community of Chlorakas, between the hotels of St. George and Laura.
The main elements of the project are:
• construction of five parallel breakwaters;
• construction of a ramp for the lifting/launching of vessels,
• adaptation of two existing measures (approximately 55 m and 35 m in length);
• demolition of existing measures (approximately 80 meters and 650 sqm of armour), and
• demolition of an existing pier/breakwater.
More specifically, the Project involves the demolition of the existing pier/breakwater in the sea area in front of the St. George Hotel, a number of small cantilevers of different length and width between the St. George and Laura Hotels and the removal/rearrangement of existing natural boulder armouring. Part of the volleys will be reused for the construction of the permanent works. The Project foresees the construction of five parallel breakwaters about 70 meters long (from head to head) with the gap between them being about 15 meters long. At both ends of the Project, the reconstruction /configuration of the existing cantilevers (where required) is foreseen, as well as the removal of existing blocks that are in the place of occupation of the works. Finally, at the eastern end of the Project, the construction of a ramp for the lifting/launching of small boats is foreseen.
The implementation of the Project is scheduled to start in March 2022, with an execution duration of 24 months and a cost of €4.16 million. (including VAT).
