OMIKRON IS DOMINANT IN CYPRUS - ALL DATA

The results of the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit for the period 08/01/2022 - 14/01/2022 were published by the Ministry of Health.

In the previous weeks, 269 cases with the omicron variant had been confirmed by sequencing in Cyprus.

On Friday 14/1/2021, another 166 samples with the omicron variant were confirmed by the NIPD and the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the University of Cyprus out of the 192 samples sent for sequencing (86%).

Summary:

a) from 99 samples of the community of the period 31/12/21 – 8/1/22, 92 samples were found with the Omikron variant, 6 with the delta variant and one that could not be characterized (percentage of omicron in the community: 93.9%).

According to the Ministry, it is important to mention that out of the 190 samples for which there have been a sequencing effect, 8 cases of Omikron and 6 cases of Delta have been hospitalized/hospitalized.
