Gradually but steadily, the number of coronavirus patients admitted to public hospitals is increasing, while according to the data of the State Health Services Organization, the number of admissions daily is 8 more than the discharges issued.
At the same time, in the CySEC, thoughts are being made for the operation of "parallel wards", in which patients who come as emergencies with other health problems to the TAEP will be hospitalized and after the test they undergo before their admission, it is found that they are also positive to the virus.
As explained, speaking to "F", the spokesman of the Organization Charalambos Charilaou, "for example, a patient who has had an accident and faces an orthopaedic problem comes to the TAEP for example. After the test he appears to be positive for the virus but has no symptoms to need hospitalization as a coronavirus patient. This man, cannot be admitted to the orthopaedic department, for example, and that is why we are now thinking about the operation of a special ward in our hospitals." This phenomenon, he said, "has begun to become more pronounced in the last few days."
"Another important finding of ours," said Mr. Harilaou, "is that for the time being it seems that patients infected with the Delta mutation are being admitted to hospitals because we have not seen any change in the severity of the symptoms that these people present compared to the previous period." It is taken for granted, however, he added, "that in our hospitals we also have patients who have been infected with the mutation 'Omikron', which seems to have caused the huge increase in cases that we see every day."
Regarding the increased number of pregnant women with coronavirus who are in hospital, Mr. Harilaou explained that "at Makarios Hospital, women who are positive to the virus, but do not have severe symptoms, are hospitalized and are hospitalized due to other complications in their pregnancy. " Pregnant women, he said, "who have severe symptoms due to the coronavirus, whether they have complications with their pregnancy or not, are being treated at Nicosia Hospital."
At the moment, he said, "we have two intubated women" and added that "they are not the first such cases. We have had other cases and fortunately we have not recorded any deaths until this moment."
