An increase of 17.10% was recorded by the Index of Prices of Construction Materials for the month of December 2021, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, rising to 119.66 points (based on 2015=100), the Statistical Service said in a statement.
The largest increase, amounting to 30.17%, was recorded in metal products. Specifically, iron and steel products recorded an increase of 40.45% since December 2020.
An increase of 19.04% was also recorded in products made of wood, insulation, chemicals and plastics. Electromechanical species increased by 13.02%, mineral products by 5.41% and minerals by 4.75%.
The annual Price Index for construction materials for 2021 stood at 112.06 points (based on 2015=100).
For the period January-December 2021, the index recorded an increase of 10.98% compared to the corresponding period of 2020.
This increase in the index in 2021 compared to the previous year is mainly due to the price increases of the following materials: construction steel 46.56%, iron building 44.34%, copper tubes 32.78%, steel pipes 32.69%, iron railings 30.28%, structural mesh 27.06%, asphalt paving 26.54%, cables 24.64% and raw (sawn) timber (22.71%).
Compared to November 2021, there was a further increase of 0.63% in December 2021.
