EARTHQUAKE - WE AVOIDED THE WORST, WITH ONLY MINOR DAMAGE

Filenews 11 January 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

Cyprus and especially the Paphos district, which was the epicentre of the earthquake at dawn today, may have avoided the worst from the strong earthquake of 6.1 [or 6.4 depending on reports] degrees on the Richter scale, but this does not mean that there has been no minor damage in various cases.

Especially in the area of Chrysochous and the communities in the northern semi-mountainous Paphos, which were closer to the focal area of seismic activity, the very strong and prolonged shake from the 6 Richter caused minor problems and damages, mainly regarding the falling of objects within premises that were not well fixed.

Characteristic are the photographs published by philenews from the interior of the supermarket Polycarpou in the area of Stroumbi. As can be seen from inside the premises, products fell from the shelves creating an image that until recently we saw only from seismic activities abroad, The fortunate thing is that in this and all other cases, the damages were limited to only some objects.
