CHLORAKAS - INTERMEDIATE SOLUTIONS OFFERED FOR SOME OF THE SYRIANS

Filenews 17 January 2022 - by Michalis Hadjivasilis

With interim solutions, an attempt is being made to discharge the situation with the hundreds of Syrians who are based in Chlorakas, in order to find other ways out of the issue.

Information from "Phileleftheros" reports that it has been decided that for those Syrians who do not have the status of supplementary protection, to make them the proposal to move to other places, in order to decongest the apartment complex in which they now live and thus reduce the problem that arises. The Deputy Ministry of Paphos, in whose field of competence asylum seekers and families belong, will recommend that they leave the area and relocate elsewhere, under better living conditions.

Specifically, for the approximately 100 Syrians who settled in the premises illegally in violation of the decree of the Minister of Interior for residence in the area, it will be proposed to them to move to the area of Limnes in Menogeia, while for the large families they will be asked to be transferred to the structure of Kofinou, where there are all the facilities and amenities for the accommodation of children. If they accept the proposal, then the children will be transferred to schools in the area in order to continue their studies normally without any obstacle.

As explained to "F" competently, it is not possible, on the basis of the decrees, to force the refugees residing in Chlorakas to move, nor is there any intention of the Police to intervene in any way for their movement. However, considerations are being made that the decree issued by the District Officer of Paphos, dated 17 November 2021, requesting the suspension of the operation of the premises where the 600 Syrians reside, will be requested to be issued by a Court so that under certain conditions it can be implemented.

However, the Police are determined to remain in Chlorakas and continue the checks of the residents and to make complaints where justified, while it will further intensify policing, in order to consolidate the sense of security of the citizens. Already for 11 Syrians, the Police have formed a criminal file in relation to the incidents committed against police officers and the fight that broke out between them a week ago.
