95% OF WEDDINGS AND BAPTISMS CANCELLED

Filenews 4 January 2022 - by Michalis Hadjivasilis

Professional event organizers are in complete despair since 95% of weddings and christenings have been cancelled not only due to the restrictive measures but also due to the thousands of coronavirus cases.

As the president of the Pancyprian Association of Professional Events (PASEPEK), Konstantinos Mosaicos, stated to "F", "not only the measures recently imposed by the Government, but also the rapid development of coronavirus cases, have completely closed us down". "Which couple will marry and everyone will be seated," he wondered, adding that now with the situation one of the participants, bride, groom, best man, godmother, will be positive for the virus. "So all scheduled events have been cancelled so we are open - but closed."

Mr. Mosaicos referred to the case of a marriage that has now been postponed for the third time, resulting in the couple being on the verge of a nervous breakdown "that's why we are forced to be the psychologists as well", he added.

According to him, 'we have asked the ministries of finance and labour for financial support for professionals in the sector and staff'', the president of PASEPEK added that everything is in the psychology of the people. "Who would want to attend large gatherings, fearing that he would get infected with the virus? We ask that they close us down and support us financially." He also pointed out that all scheduled events, with some exceptions, have been cancelled until March. With 5,000 cases a day, who would give an invitation, he wondered. Finally, he added that the 24-hour rapid test, which must be subjected from today (yesterday) to all those who will attend such events, is the last thing that concerns the entrepreneurs of the sector. The main problem they face is the prohibition of dancing, since there is no marriage without a feast.

It is noted that today a delegation of the Association will have a meeting with the president of DISY to raise the problems it faces due to the pandemic and the illegal premises.
