A total of 5244 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths were recorded today Friday, according to the Ministry of Health.

No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 650.

230 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 81 are in serious condition. 77.83% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

A total of 139,334 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

5244 (positivity rate: 3.76%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 197,401.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 650, of which:

  • 411 men (63.2%), and
  • 239 women (36.8%).

The average age of those who died of Coronavirus is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 230 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 81 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 81 patients who are in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 48 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 139,334 diagnoses performed, 13,007 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 126,327 by the antigen rapid test, 5244 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 138 cases from 1,030 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 55 cases from 4,036 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 748 cases from 7,220 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 62 cases from 615 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 3,011 cases from 88,689 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,222 cases from 37,638 samples tested using the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 7 cases from 104 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 case from 2 samples taken in the context of checks in closed structures.

780 new cases in the occupied territories

A total of 780 new coronavirus cases were identified on Friday in the occupied territories out of a total of 23,328 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The "ministry of health" announced that all cases are local infections.

401 were found in occupied Nicosia, 136 in Kyrenia, 147 in Famagusta, 12 in Trikomo, 36 in Morphou and 48 in Lefka.

The total number of cases in the occupied territories is 40,151 and deaths 143.
