There have been 5048 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health, with two more deaths.
Specifically:
- 2 people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 638.
- 180 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 79 are in serious condition. 85.48% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
- A total of 169,476 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 5048 (positivity rate: 2.98% new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 166,827.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 2 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- A man, aged 76, who died on December 31st in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 78 years, who died on December 31 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 638, of which:
- 405 men (63.5%), and
- 233 women (36.5%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 180 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 79 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 79 patients who are in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 6 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 45 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 169,476 diagnoses performed, 14,971 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 154,505 by the antigen rapid test, 5048 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 105 cases from 6,186 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 1352 cases from 7,816 samples taken through private initiative.
- 25 cases from 480 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2815 cases from 121,614 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 751 cases from 32,891 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 0 cases from 2 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 0 cases from 487 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
