5,024 [9 IN NURSING HOMES] NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Monday

Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 641, according to the Health Ministry's announcement. At the same time, 5,024 (positivity rate: 3.06%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 177,721.

201 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 75 are in serious condition. 81.1% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

A total of 164,358 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 2 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

- A man, aged 84, who died on January 2nd at the Limassol General Hospital.

- A man, aged 62, who died on January 3rd in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 641, of which:

  • 407 men (63.5%), and
  • 234 women (36.5%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 201 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 75 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 75 patients who are in serious condition, 32 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 39 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 164,358 diagnoses performed, 13,840 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 150,518 by the antigen rapid test, 5024 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 141 cases from 1,084 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 193 cases from 6,429 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 434 cases from 5,656 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 69 cases from 552 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 3169 cases from 112,903 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,017 cases from 37,615 samples tested with the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 1 case from 119 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
