Four more people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 661, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.
245 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 86 are in serious condition. 76.64% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
4,187 (positivity rate: 3.05%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified from 137,091 molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 208,559.
It is worth noting that among the current cases, 11 were detected in nursing homes and 75 in secondary schools.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 4 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- Woman, aged 82 years, who died on January 9 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
- A man, aged 52, who died on January 9th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 76, who died on January 9th at Nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 71, who died on January 10th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 661, of which:
- 415 men (62.9%), and
- 246 women (37.1%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 245 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 86 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 86 patients who are in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 6 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 53 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 137,091 diagnoses performed, 13,416 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 123,675 by the antigen rapid test, 4187 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 200 cases from 1,958 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 86 cases from 5,646 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 402 cases from 4,960 samples taken through private initiative.
- 23 cases from 403 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2,680 cases from 87,512 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 786 cases from 36,163 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
- 10 cases from 449 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
