3,197 CASES, FOUR DEATHS - Wedneday 12 January

Another four deaths due to coronavirus, the Ministry of Health announced today, while another 3,197 cases were identified. At the same time, 90 positive cases of the virus were identified in schools and 6 in nursing homes.

Analytically:

  • 4 people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 669.
  • 266 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 93 are in serious condition. 76.32% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
  • A total of 112,233 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 3,197 (positivity rate: 2.85%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 215,271.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 4 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

- A woman, aged 68, who died on January 9th in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 81 years, who died on January 11 at Paphos General Hospital.

- A man, aged 87, who died on January 12th at the Limassol General Hospital.

- A man, aged 57, who died on January 12th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 669, of which:

  • 419 men (62.6%), and
  • 250 women (37.4%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.9 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 266 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 93 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 93 patients who are in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 61 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 112,233 diagnoses performed, 9,558 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 102,675 by the antigen rapid test, 3197 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 317 cases from 2,489 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 43 cases from 1,681 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 355 cases from 4,843 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 26 cases from 381 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,352 cases from 56,091 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,097 cases from 46,584 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 7 cases from 164 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
