New Year's Day was not recorded, while 2,332 new cases of COVID-19 were announced out of 38,977 tests. The positivity rate stood at 5.98%. At the same time 187 patients are hospitalized, 82 in serious condition.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, the total number of deaths remains 638, 405 men (63.5%), and 233 women (36.5%). The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years. The total number of cases is 169,159.

85.03% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

At the same time, 16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

As mentioned, in total, 187 patients of the COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 82 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 82 patients who are in serious condition, 32 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 46 are hospitalized in an Increased Care Unit.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 638, of which:

- 405 men (63.5%), and

- 233 women (36.5%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 187 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 82 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 82 patients who are in serious condition, 32 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 46 are hospitalized in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 38,977 diagnoses performed, 8,525 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 30,452 by the antigen rapid test method, 2332 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 57 cases from 4,674 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 388 cases from 3,615 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 21 cases from 236 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1008 cases from 14,473 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 858 cases from 15,979 samples tested using the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
