In a pit of 2 metres and in a way that could not be easily located, the bodies of the two women who were victims of murder were found in the country house in mountainous Limassol. The suspect, who confessed to the murder, was brought before the Court today which issued his detention for 8 days, while the Police are examining all the facts of the case, looking for two other people who helped dig the spot where the bodies were buried.
Regarding the two persons who helped him, Christos Andreou said that the suspect has given some description of the two persons, while as claimed by the perpetrator, he does not know any evidence. You realize, he said, how difficult it is to identify these persons. "We are also proceeding on this 8-day period of remand, to identify the two persons to determine if his allegations are true," he said, noting that from the first moment the suspect makes various contradictory statements. At the same time, asked to comment on the suspect's claim that these persons did not know why he was carrying them to dig, Mr. Andreou said that the identification of these two persons and their testimony will be a very important element in the case.
Mr. Andreou pointed out that the contradictions in the testimony and reports of the suspect, as well as evidence that had been found in his possession and in the country house in mountainous Limassol, as well as the telecommunications data, were the elements that the Police had from the beginning and led to the reasonable case that the two women were victims of a crime.
He added that the examinations carried out at the scene show that the two women were buried at a depth of 2 metres in a way that could not be detected even by the police dogs. He explained that due to the rain in the area, the ground that had been dug into became one with the rest of the ground and so the spot where the bodies were buried could not be discernible. The Police used drones and satellite images to detect the changes in the ground, but the spot could not be discernible by these means either, Mr Andreou added.
The Force Spokesman said the suspect was taken to court today, which decided to detain him for 8 days. The autopsy on the bodies to determine the cause of death is being carried out today, with him confessing to killing the victims with a firearm.
He noted that a very good job was done by the investigators as within 6 days they identified a suspect, and since that day he had started an investigation with the investigators to locate the two women. It was, he added, an effort by all the members of the police in this department and we had this outcome.
In relation to the motive, he said it is being investigated, with the suspect having already made some allegations.
With regard to the judicial process, which today took place behind closed doors, he said that a request had been made for the procedure to take place under this regime, which was accepted by the Court of Justice.
Asked for information that a third person was in the suspect's car, Mr Andreou said he did not know this information, assuring however that all the data will be investigated in depth.
