The conditions of fear and insecurity under which the employees of the Pafos Welfare Office work have returned to the forefront today.
In yet another incident, foreign beneficiaries of state grants caused serious incidents against officials, but also police officers who were in the area, after the incidents of the previous weeks, protesting once again about their failure to serve them on time and satisfactorily.
Some of the Africans, who are in Paphos under the status of asylum seekers, verbally attacked employees of the department, while one of them also moved against a police officer guarding the building.
The Police proceeded to a number of arrests, while the employees of the Welfare Office descended into a spontaneous work stop protesting against the conditions under which they are forced to work daily, as they pointed out.
The unsettled climate prevailing in the building on Nikolaou Nikolaidis Avenue was denounced today by residents, as well as business owners of the area, who reported that the concentration of a large number of foreigners of African origin outside the Welfare Office causes intense problems for everyone, since it is often the phenomena of antisocial behaviours and their intrusive movements in the area.
